The Instructor Development Course is the next professional step after Divemaster. It develops your ability to teach dive theory, present skills clearly, supervise student divers and create safe, positive learning experiences in confined and open water.
Your training is practical and personal. You prepare with experienced instructor mentors and a PADI Course Director, practise presentations repeatedly and receive clear feedback before progressing to the separate Instructor Examination.

A clear path to the examination
Send your professional rating, dive count, certification history, CPR and first-aid date, medical status and available dates so we can confirm your pathway.
Complete the required digital learning and strengthen dive theory, standards, risk management and lesson-planning skills before practical presentations.
Present classroom, confined-water and open-water lessons repeatedly, receiving specific feedback on safety, control, demonstration and communication.
After successful IDC completion and once every prerequisite is met, attend the separate Instructor Examination conducted by a PADI Instructor Examiner.
Plan your professional training properly
To begin the IDC, you must be at least 18, be a PADI Divemaster or hold a qualifying leadership-level certification, have been a certified diver for at least six months, have at least 60 logged dives and hold current CPR and first-aid training completed within the previous 24 months.
Physician-signed medical clearance completed within the previous 12 months is required. You need at least 100 logged dives to attend the Instructor Examination. EFR Instructor certification is also required before becoming a PADI Instructor and can be added to the training plan when needed.
Price is on request. The quotation depends on your starting qualifications, materials, EFR Instructor requirements, preparation needs, Course Director schedule, IE registration, transport and accommodation.
The IE is a separate standardized evaluation. Because the program involves repeated diving, plan at least 18 hours between your final dive and flying; keeping your departure day free of diving is the best choice.
Plan your instructor training with confidence
The PADI IDC combines the Assistant Instructor course and Open Water Scuba Instructor program. It develops your teaching ability and prepares you for the separate Instructor Examination.
Price is on request. The total depends on your current professional rating, materials, EFR Instructor status, preparation needs, Course Director and IE dates, transport and accommodation. Your quotation lists every inclusion clearly.

You need at least 60 logged dives to begin the IDC and at least 100 logged dives before attending the Instructor Examination.

EFR Instructor certification is required before becoming a PADI Instructor. If you do not already have it, we can include it in your personal training plan and quotation.
The IE is a separate standardized evaluation. Its date, location, registration and fee are coordinated individually and stated clearly in your quotation.
The schedule depends on your preparation, current qualifications, Course Director availability and IE dates. We confirm a realistic plan after reviewing your information.
