Scuba Diving Frequently Asked Questions

Book as early as possible, especially for Saona and Catalina Island. Small groups and limited boat space mean popular dates can fill quickly. We recommend reserving at least 3–5 days ahead when possible.

Please send your preferred date, hotel, full name, date of birth, height, weight, shoe size, certification level, approximate number of dives, date of your last dive and any medical conditions or medication.

Your place is confirmed after we agree on the trip and receive the required deposit. We then send the final pickup time and meeting point before the excursion.

Yes. Send the details for every diver and companion. We keep groups personal, with a maximum of four divers per instructor.

We take our guests to the Caribbean side of the Dominican Republic. Our dives are around Bayahibe, Saona Island and Catalina Island—not on Punta Cana's Atlantic coast.

The Bayahibe morning trip includes two dives and normally returns earlier than the full-day island excursions. It is the best option when you want to keep part of your afternoon free.

Catalina normally combines The Wall and Aquarium. Saona normally combines Atlantic Princess and a Peñón reef. Bayahibe uses different local reefs and wrecks according to conditions and diver experience.

Yes, depending on space and the trip. Saona and Catalina are particularly enjoyable for companions because they can share the boat ride, beach and lunch while the divers complete two dives.

No. Final dive sites depend on weather, sea conditions, safety and experience. Marine animals are wild, so no particular sighting can be guaranteed.

Our standard Bayahibe, Saona and Catalina excursions include two dives for certified divers and participating Discover Scuba Diving guests.

Yes. Beginners aged 10 or older can join Discover Scuba Diving. It includes a briefing, shallow-water skills and closely supervised dives, with a maximum depth of 12 metres.

Usually yes. Send your full name, date of birth, training agency and any certification details you remember. We can often verify the certification online before the trip.

Tell us honestly when you last dived and how much experience you have. We can begin calmly with a skills review or recommend the most suitable trip.

No. The St. George is a deep wreck reaching approximately 38–40 metres and is reserved for suitably experienced Advanced Open Water divers.

Junior divers under 12 are limited to 12 metres. Junior divers aged 12–15 are normally limited to 18 metres, subject to their certification and instructor guidance.

Yes, Nitrox can be arranged for certified Nitrox divers for an additional charge per tank. Request it when booking so it can be prepared.

Yes. Mask, BCD, regulator, fins, 3 mm shorty, tank and weights are included. Send your height, weight and shoe size so we can prepare suitable equipment.

Bring your swimsuit, hotel towel, certification information, dry clothes, reef-friendly sun protection, personal medication and the agreed remaining payment.

Pickup is usually around 7:15–7:50 a.m., depending on the resort. The meeting point may be the lobby or security gate. We send the exact instructions before the trip.

The drive normally takes about 60–120 minutes depending on your resort, pickup route and traffic.

Yes. We provide drinking water, Coca-Cola, pineapple and biscuits. Saona and Catalina full-day trips also include lunch.

Yes. Tell us which items you will bring so we prepare only what you still need.

The normal deposit is US$40 per diver. Course deposits may be higher. The deposit secures your place and is deducted from the total price.

The remaining balance is normally paid in cash in US dollars, euros or Dominican pesos on the dive day. Other payment methods may involve an additional processing fee.

If we cancel because of unsafe conditions or an operational reason, the payment for the cancelled activity is refunded.

Please notify us as early as possible. Cancellations at least 24 hours before the trip are refundable, while late cancellations or no-shows may lose the deposit. Non-refundable payment-processing fees remain excluded.

Yes. Tell us before booking about medical conditions, medication, recent surgery or pregnancy. A medical questionnaire—and sometimes approval from a physician—may be required before diving.

Do not dive with congestion, breathing problems, significant illness or any condition that may make equalising or diving unsafe. Contact us as early as possible so we can discuss the situation.

Safety comes first. We may change the dive site, route or schedule according to weather and sea conditions. If the activity cannot operate safely, we will contact you about the available options.

Plan at least 12 hours after one no-decompression dive and at least 18 hours after multiple dives in one day or diving on several days. Follow the longer interval if your computer, training agency or medical professional recommends one.

We plan a maximum of four divers per instructor, allowing personal guidance and a relaxed pace.

No. We do not offer baited shark dives. Our approach is to observe Caribbean marine life responsibly without touching, chasing or feeding animals.
